Q: When is it?

A: Poets Take Over! happens quarterly, in February, May, August, & November.

It is scheduled on a Friday evening, the exact date is determined in collaboration with the venue and is announced around six weeks prior.

Q: What time does it start?

A: The first poet is introduced at 6:00 PM.

We aim to be set up by 5:30 PM for word play.

But the shop is open from 9:00 AM and you can come in anytime you like.

We strive to start on time.

Q: What time does it finish?

A: The final poet is introduced at 8:00 PM. We finish up around 8:30 PM.

Q: So what is the format?

A: There are five feature poets. Each will perform for 15- 20 minutes and are scheduled at 30 minute intervals. (6:00, 6:30. 7:00. 7:30, 8:00). Between, the host will invite audience members to share a poem of their own.

Q: What if I can’t stay all that time?

A: That’s fine! You can come and go as you please throughout the evening.

Q: Where is it?

A: Page & Turner. Level 2 Myer Centre, Rundle Mall, Adelaide.

Q: Is the venue accessible?

A: Yes. There are no steps at the Rundle Mall entrances to the Myer Centre. Lifts and escalators will transport you to Level 2.

There are accessible toilets on Level 2 of the Myer Centre.

Q: How can I get there?

Car parking can be problematic in the CBD and so public transport is recommended.

The North Terrace entrance of Myer Centre is a 500m walk from Adelaide Railway Station. The Rundle Mall entrance is 800m from Adelaide Railway Station.

The North Terrace entrance of Myer Centre is a 200m walk from Art Gallery Tram Stop. The Rundle Mall entrance is 100m from Rundle Mall Tram Stop.

King William Street and North Terrace bus routes will get you close to the Mall.

Q: How much does it cost?

A: Poets Take Over! is free to attend and to participate. Some feature poets may have books for sale. Books and beverages can be purchased from Page & Turner.

Q: How do I sign up to read?

A: There is no sign up for the open mic. Simply put your hand up when the host asks.

Q: How long can I speak for?

A: One poem. If you have something quite long to present, please speak to the host during one of the breaks.

Q: Do I need to provide trigger warnings?

A: The host will give a general trigger warning at the beginning of the evening. If you are addressing topics that you think may not be covered by this, or you have particularly graphic content, please provide your own specific trigger warning. Be aware that you are in a public book shop - PG material is advised.

Q: How do I become one of the feature poets?

A:. The line up is selected, curated, and invited by Ellipsis Poetry. Being involved in the Adelaide poetry and spoken word community is the best way to get on the bill.
