Where it began…
After the initial Poets Take Over! event, it was determined that if it was to be repeated with the same or similar time frame, there needed to be something more for participants to do. The long table at Page & Turner lent itself ideally to Table Poetry (like fridge poetry, but on a table) and Blackout Poetry. So that’s what we did in February 2025. These activities are now an integral part of Poets Take Over!

The Word Play activities provide
Entertainment for participants before the first feature poet
Encouragement for participants to read at the open mic
Content for Ellipsis Zines
And all the rest…
All materials and full instructions are provided for two activities for participants from 5:00 PM. These are designed to produce short poems on the night, or ideas for further exploration later.
The two activities chosen are deliberately varied. One activity will be repeated at the following Poets Take Over! and paired with a new activity.
Participants are encourage to read their creations at the open mic, and/or to submit them for publication in a zine.
