After the initial idea for Ellipsis came the Mission Statement. Written in June 2024, this is truly our founding document. This version has been tidied up a little up - the original was a tad sweary. We did not expect to have to get so profresh so soon.

Mission Statement

We, at Ellipsis Poetry, accept the mission:

  • To grow a diverse, safe, and supportive community around the poetic literary arts,

  • To provide a multilayered platform for poetic literary artists to create and collaborate,

  • To assist poetic literary artists to present their work to the broader audience

What does that mean?

We are focussed primarily on poetry. We love poetry! Poetry covers a lot of styles and forms, and we love them all.

We want to do so many things with poetry. We want to write poetry, read poetry, listen to poetry, record poetry, and film poetry. We want to publish poetry and set it free in the big wide world., in zines, blogs, books, paper planes maybe – who knows.

We want to do all this with other poets. We want to do some this with other kinds of artists too – visual artists, dancers, musicians, actors – all of them!

We want the whole world to love poetry like we do.

How is this Statement useful?

It is always useful to know why you’re doing the things you do. Times will inevitably arise when you find yourself asking “Why am I doing this?” it is handy to have it written down to remind yourself.

There are also times when we are asked to drive or support ideas and ventures from other people. When decisions have to be made about what we do and do not do, the first place we go is the Mission Statement. It gives us a framework to ask “Is this something that Ellipsis Poetry can be expected to do?”

It is also useful for others to have this statement as a starting point for understanding who we are and why we choose some things over others.

And how is the Mission going so far?

It is January 2026 - a year and a half after the original Statement was written. We feel that we have fully achieved the first part of the Mission. We have grown a community.

We will endeavour to continue to nurture that community as we tackle parts two and three.

Baby steps…
